Pastel     20″ x 16″

I’ve been very remiss lately, not posting much this month.   Still painting more than ever, but life keeps interfering, pulling me into mundane matters that need to be taken care of.

My sister asked me to do this painting.   I think I have done a painting for every one of her dogs.   People often give me very sentimental, but poor quality photos of their pets.   This is the way she remembers her dog, it’s a meaningful image to her.   When I know the pet I can fill in the blanks and put personality into the painting; when I don’t know them it’s more difficult to do this.

March 14 x 11 Faye Colored Pencil Toned Paper

“Faye Cat”

My daughter-in-law sent me some photos of the ever ellusive Faye cat, the Queen.   Faye stayed with us briefly once and spent most of her time in hiding because our dogs just didn’t quite get this royal supremacy she assumes over everything and everyone in her world, and insisted on chasing her around whenever she ventured out.   It was a brief but unpleasant period of exile for her I believe, and she is much happier now where she is accepted as Queen over all she views.

“Quincy”               12″ x 9″

Prismacolor pencil on toned paper

I’ve been visiting my sons for the holidays and feeling lucky to be able to do so.   I took some photos of one of my son’s cats, just the one because I only saw a glimpse of his other cat, once, briefly and couldn’t get any photos of her.   Even Quincy here was hard to capture: for such a large cat he moves very quickly and as much as I loved the action shots of him playing wildly with his toy, all four legs up in the air, I couldn’t capture a photo of the play with enough detail to render it.   Even here he is obviously just waiting for someone to pick up the toy lying in front of him, always ready to play.
